Horoscope Forecast

by Maricar Hita

Aries (March 21 – April 20)
Gifts of pleasure could be bestowed upon you with little or no effort on your part. Regardless, it may be hard for you to sit still, since just about everything seems to be going your way, especially in matters of the heart. Although your approach to love is aggressive, it also involves tenderness and sensitivity.

Taurus (April 21 – May 20)
You might be put off by other people's comments. You'll find their behavior rude. You may break from your normal good manners and start to lash out at people around you. It could be the result of pent-up energy with no positive outlet. Be careful about exhibiting the behavior that you abhor in others.

Gemini (May 21 – June 20)
Get things started. You have many fantastic ideas. Really, the hardest thing for you now is to choose which one to pursue first. Activities that engage your creativity and sensitivity are most appealing now. Give some strength to your heart, which is normally seen as being tender and overly sensitive. Know that you're brave and go for the gold.

Cancer (June 21 – July 20)
Your heartstrings may not feel particularly strong, and this situation isn't likely to get any better today when you find that people are insensitive to your situation. This isn't a good time to rely on others to pick you up. Put on your protective armor before you go out the door. The forecast calls for pushy moods and hostile attitudes.

Leo (July 21 – August 20)
The fog has finally lifted and you're able to see clearly again. Make sure you're awake and alert, because the gun is about to go off and the starting gates are about to open. You have the ability to take the lead, especially when it comes to matters involving love and romance. Your creativity is strong, and you'll lead the pack almost effortlessly.

Virgo (August 21 – September 20)
Light a candle and make a wish. See the flame as a symbol of the transformation and passion within you. Your heart may feel restless. The flame flutters as a result of the passing wind. As the flame dances, you may remember the dances that you perform in an attempt to draw attention away from an issue that you know you must face. The time is now.

Libra (September 21 – October 20)
This is a climactic time for you, and you may feel like your world is caving in. You may desperately try to hold the keystone in place so that the whole structure doesn't fall. Somehow you feel solely responsible for holding together everything in your world. Remember that partnership means that there is someone else who needs to uphold his or her end of the bargain.

Scorpio (October 21 – November 20)
Your mood should turn toward getting things underway. This may mean that you need to get certain things out of your way, including people. Don't be afraid to take action as necessary in order to get your point across. Deeds will speak louder than words. If you feel like time is passing you by, rip up the calendar and enjoy every moment as it comes.

Sagittarius (November 21 – December 20)
You're on an emotional high. You feel like a soaring eagle. Your behavior may seem rather primal and animalistic, but this is fine. See where this instinct takes you. Raw passion is the fuel that lights your fire. Don't deny this internal flame. Move forward with your dreams, especially in love and romance.

Capricorn (December 21 – January 20)
You may be asking, "Why me?" in almost every realm of your life today. For some reason it seems that everyone but you has exactly what they want. Perhaps you're just being too picky. Your standards are high, and this is fine. It's easy to reach small goals. You've picked the largest mountain to climb. Be patient.
Aquarius (January 21 – February 20)

Draw your strength from your sense of self. There isn't another person like you, so capitalize on this and move forward in the way that only you can. There's a great deal of bravery in your heart asking you to take risks that you may not have considered before. There are opportunities just waiting for you and no one else.
Pisces (February 21 – March 20)

At first you may be taken aback by someone's aggressive approach to people and situations, but then you may see that really, this person has something important you can learn from. Study this way of going about things and realize that you need to adopt more of this assertive manner in order to be successful. This is especially true in matters of love and romance.

The Garden Formula

by Angela Bautista

On a recent trip to my Auntie's house, I was deep into surfing the internet when my head turned to a small photo of the oldest woman alive. I wondered how this kind of people stay and live their lives longer.

In my previous research about it, experts find the world's longest-living people in a mountain village on a tiny island. As I read more, I found out that their secret isn't about the exercises, yogurt or diets. The key ingredient to living and somehow loving longer is growing right inside their gardens.’

The Greek Island of Ikaria, some 35 miles off the coast of Turkey, locals there suffer 20 percent less cancer than the Americans, half the rate of heart disease and most surprisingly, none of the dementia. This was according to the National Geographic Magazine.

These Ikarians were discovered to have 150 days of religious fasting a year. All they eat are leafy greens, potatoes and beans. All of these things add to the ingredient of their long life.  But their very original way of having a long life is having an afternoon habit of picking garden herbs and putting them in boiled water for their evening drink, at breakfast they drink tea from other dried herbs. Ikarians used wild mint, spleenwort, rosemary, and purple sage as their tea. And all of these herbs have one thing in common: They are all diuretics. According to the dictionary.com, diuretics increase the volume of the urine excreted or simply, it means that it makes you pee. In so doing, they help you flush your body's natural waste products.

It may not sound appetizing but considering its use and importance, it may be a good everyday beverage for all. As Greg Plotnikoff, M.D. says, "Green tea is nature's best beverage."

We Were Splashed: A Binan, Laguna summer getaway at Splash Island

by Jennica Butiong

“Whoa! It’s summer time! No school work to think about! No responsibility to take over, malayo sa diskusyon at ingay! It’s time to unwind and spend my time counting sand, or maybe looking at ooh-lala bodies wearing their comfortable swim wear and summer attire.” Those were the words that came to my mind last summer vacation.

Well, what would one think about when if they heard the word, summer? I bet it would be beach, water, sun, heat, perfect henna tattoos and fun! That’s what I think of when I hear the word summer!
I experienced all of these at Splash Island in Binan Laguna. It was a lot of fun, a lot of laughter and a lot of hotness all over the place.

Let me start with our way there, we left at 6 am in the morning. We came from Batangas, my hometown; I decided to be on my uncle’s car with my cousin while mom, dad and my siblings rode our car. We talked a lot about the place, it seemed like we were so excited that time, we talked about where to go first, what outfit should we wear and we are imagining ourselves riding on Magellan’s drop!

As we talk about each and every bit of our excitement, the time has come, we arrived at Splash Island. At the entrance gate, there are a lot of people, kids, men, women, teenagers but only one thing is one their mind and that is to enjoy the heat of summer! To unwind and have fun! As I enter the gate of Splash Island, my excitement rose up and I want to swim already! We first looked for a cottage for us to stay in. After looking for one, there we go! We first went to The Curl of the Orient, wherein we are relaxed with big salbabidas that we got, we are caressed by the flowing waters, but laughter is still there. Next stop is the Agos Grandes, it’s like a big pool with big waves, its machine generated, I had a lot of fun in this attraction. As you go nearer the waves, the more that you will be carried away, so I consider this as a battle with the waves, it’s a lot of fun! Really!

Next stop is the Big Bamboo, why Big Bamboo, the slide was constructed like a bamboo, its colour green. You have to get your salbabida and ride on it, yes! Ride on it! And you will be splashed into the water as you went through the slide of the Big Bamboo! It’s frightening at first but after trying, you still want more tries! We never stop exploring, we never stop going to attractions! Next stop is the Dos Supremos, in this attraction, you go with pairs! My pair is my cousin, Kat, we took the salbabida from the first floor and we need to get it up on the 3rd floor and wow, there are big stairs first before the third floor. We have to experience this attraction or else it’s not complete, with all our strengths we carried the salbabida up to the third floor, and whew, we did it! We had 3 tries on this attraction. Ooppps! It’s Lunch time, we went back the cottage to take our lunch, my father bought food inside the resort, we had a hearty meal, a meal inside the banana leaf! Burp! After our meal, we went to the tattoo stall, actually this is really my main goal last summer, to have a perfect henna tattoo! I decided to put my tattoo on my right hand, the one in line with the middle finger, the design is simple, just a tribal design from the booklet!

Truly, my summer had been a worthwhile experience, especially when it is spent most with my family. I will not hesitate to go back to this place. I experienced the cool blue skies, the warm burning floors that my sole felt. We were truly splashed with FUN AND HEAT at Splash Island in Binan, Laguna.

Sinangag Station

by Mycka Batocabe

American fastfood chains have graced our country for years now. They have served us burgers, chicken, nuggets and french fries for our appetite’s delight. Today, a Pinoy fast food has charmed the hungry Filipino food lovers, the Sinangag Station.

After observing that most fast food restaurants serve American food, Mr. Resty Esponillo came up with the idea to have a Pinoy fast food resto. October 2003 was the birth of Sinangag Station, the long dream of Mr. Esponillo.

When you hear silog you’ll think of tapa. But Sinangag Station is also known for their sisig, bangus, and some products from Cebu like Spanish sardines, danggit and chorizo. Their most expensive dish would be the Hungarian and bangus which is P70.  Sinangag Station is a 24/7 tapsilugan that promises to cater every type of person with its accessibility and affordability.

Sinangag Station isn’t the stylish resto. It is an open-air, tile flooring and a few picnic tables and benches. But it’s clean and the staff is friendly.  With the reasonable prices and full meal dishes, most customers are students, office workers with unusual work time and party goers who are looking for some place to eat at pass midnight. The Pinoy resto assures its fans to offer good quality, fast, clean and affordable meals which recognized them as Philippine Marketing Excellence Awardee.

Because of the good quality of food, service and great response of people, Sinangag Station flourished to a total of thirteen branches. They have eleven branches in Cebu and two in the Urban Metro, one in Maginhawa and the other in Katipunan. Five were company own and the rest are franchise.

Go ahead and rush to Katipunan to try Sinangag station today!
