Doughnuts that might beat Krispy Kreme

by Mycka Batocabe

Doughnuts are a favorite of Filipinos. From Dunkin’ Donuts, Mister Donuts and Krispy Kreme, these are the very popular doughnuts that we love. But if you’re tired eating the same flavors from these doughnut shops, you better try Cello’s doughnuts and dips.

The owner Cello Santos came up with the idea to put up a doughnut shop after graduation for her love of baking and at the time boyfriend and now husband Jutes love for doughnuts. Cello didn’t like the idea of working 8 hours a day for someone. She wanted to be her own boss so she asked permission from her parents to put up her own business. With her family, friends and her boyfriend’s support, she took the risk and opened Cello’s doughnuts and dips on July 2004 along Katipunan in Loyola Heights.
Cello’s doughnuts are soft, not too sweet and very light, just the right dessert to satisfy your sweet tooth. Her bestsellers are cheese and Oreo but you would definitely love her strawberry, cinnamon, chocolate, chocnut, M&M’s, double chocolate and so many more. If you can’t decide which flavors to order, you may try their cocktails. These are mini doughnuts you may order for box of 12 or 15. You would be surprise to finish these mini doughnuts in a flash because you will surely not stop trying their interesting flavored doughnuts.

What makes Cello’s doughnuts and dips different from the usual doughnut shops are her C’s and pillows. It is a C-shaped and square shaped honey glazed doughnuts with different dips to choose from. They have Nutella, Toblerone, dark Belgian chocolate, dulce de leche and white chocolate strawberry as their dips. Cello made a perfect combination of her famous doughnuts and ice cream, a sure heaven for ice cream and doughnut lovers. And if you’re feeling a little sweet for your special someone, they can personalize your doughnuts for special occasions.

Cello doesn’t use any preservative and food coloring to her doughnuts. Her strawberry doughnut for instance is light pink. This is because she doesn’t use food coloring plus the color would depend on the strawberries they bought for the day. The best part about Cello’s doughnuts and dips is that they can deliver your doughnuts right at your door steps.

After seven years of great service and utterly delicious doughnuts, they now have five branches. These are the Katipunan, Taft, SM North Edsa, Alabang Town Center and Davao branches. With expanding growth of followers, it wouldn’t be a surprise if Cello’s doughnuts and dips will double its branches for the coming years.

Cello’s doughnuts have successfully conquered the popular doughnut shops. So if you want your taste buds to explore new flavors of doughnuts, you better try Cello’s doughnuts and dips.
