“What’s my secret in 50 years of marriage? I beat her up – with love of course!”
Mr. Agapito Burgos
Classmates in sociology class, Mr. Agapito and Mrs. Andrea Pilar Burgos first met at the University of the East. Mr. Burgos excitedly tells that the second time he talked to her at a Christmas party dance, he noticed sparkles in her eyes when they danced and the rest was history. Here they are now celebrating their 50th Wedding Anniversary at the Malate Church, the same church when they first got married and are now renewing their vows.
The celebration is attended by families from both sides and friends who have played an important part in their lives. With yellow dominating the entire event along with the color white the softens the tone and complementing music that fits the atmosphere, the old couple walked on the isle like they did the first time; only they do not meet by the altar.
The Mr. and Mrs. Burgos happily relates their story when they first met and surprisingly seems to forget who really did the courting back in the years. “She keeps turning her head at my direction when we were at the party,” Mr. Burgos tells “she kept batting her eyes so I was somewhat forced to ask her to dance” later on Mrs. Burgos interrupts and says “When I met him, I would always see him waiting for me” and the two starts to debate on their incomparable memories. But it would always come down to one single thing no matter how many arguments they have; they’re sure they still feel the same way as they did 50 years before.
“Even when the time comes… that I would be reincarnated. I would still choose him” Mrs. Andrea Pilar Burgos said in her last statement in the interview.
Love isn’t of course measured by how long the marriage lasted, or how extravagant wedding anniversaries might be. Love is to be felt and having that glint in the eyes when looking at your beloved. It is a promise to love each other for better or for worse, in sickness and in health.
