This year’s sportsfest got Paulinians working up a sweat. The major games being basketball and volleyball games eliminations started early August. The games held on Sportsfest week were all championship games except for a couple of games which determined who would make it into the finals on the last day of the sportsfest week.

New additions to the minor games line-up are chess and Scrabble replacing tug-o’-war and obstacle relay. For the swimming events, it was held in campus this year after the re-opening of the swimming pool in front of the newly erected canteen. The same swimming events were held except for the relay. The Mass Communication Society took home two gold medals from this event.

The events were concluded on Friday September 23, with its highlight being the cheering competition.  Compared to last year each performance was shortened to 5 minutes leaving enough time for the awarding for athletes. Performances by the college students varied with their respective themes. The Tourism went with an indigenous inspired performance, the Psychology Society with a tin soldier look, the mass communication society sporting a “who-run-the-world” angst to their performance.

For the cheering competition the Psychology society got 2nd place, the Mass Communication Society 1st and the champion was the Nursing Society. The Mass Communication Society was awarded as the Best PEP squad for always being present and supportive of their team.

For the major games the society landed itself in 3rd place in basketball and 2nd place in the volleyball in the women’s division. Elaiza Cabuag and Diane Sumulong were among the Mythical 6 of women’s volleyball. Elaiza Cabuag was also awarded as part of the Mythical 5 in basketball women’s division. But the this year’s biggest award goes to the HRM Society who garnered the most wins in both majors sports making them Over-all Champion.

This goes to show that this is a very promising year for the Mass Communication society. It proved that they are strong contenders in the area of sports. The mass comm. students make it look as easy as having bacons for breakfast.
